So I was just reading an article about Richard Dawkins talking about evolution,

redroboticsoul:

and I saw one of the usual Christians against Dawkins say something in the comments section. It said something like “Sadly, Dawkins lowers us to the level of any other animal. However, God raises us much higher…” and then went on to quote something from Matthew in the Bible that I don’t recall. So that’s the problem with the world today! People think humans are on some sort of pedestal, and are more important or special to any other animal. Well let me tell these people: nature does not by any means value humans other any other species. In fact nature does not even value life, it’s just a chance event that life sprang up on this planet. And like any other species, humans have strengths and weaknesses. We may be intelligent (arguably for some people), but physically we’re weak: we can’t run very fast, we have no substantial method of defending ourselves, and we’re very fragile. In fact the only thing we really can boast about is our brains. So people like that should really shut the fuck up.

Tl;dr: Humans are not special.

Rant over.

Bertrand Russell’s Celestial Teapot
“Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake.”
“If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes.”
“But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense.”
“If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.”

I must say, I’m surprised because I think this is the first post on tumblr I’ve seen concerning Russell’s Teapot.

I didn’t see what was coming, then seeing him at the end was hilarious. A face tells a thousand words.
